Knotwork: A General Method

There are a number of methods for drawing Celtic and other forms of knotwork. This class will give a method for easily planning and drawing knotwork patterns. We will also look at how to extract a knot pattern from original sources and modify it for your own use.

Knotwork: Advanced Techniques

A continuation of the General Method class. This class will examine how to construct large complex knots from smaller motifs. We will examine classic knot patterns and the method of filling space with these motifs and entanglements.

Beginning Inkle Weaving

This class would cover the basics of using an Inkle loom to weave trim/belts/necklaces. This would be a 2 hr class with a maximum of 6 students. Everything needed to get started weaving will be supplied by the teacher.

Viking Whipcord Braiding

This class is for children or adults. Whipcord Braiding is a fast fun way to make cords/award hangers/etc.

Documentation 101

This class is for those artisans who love to make works of art but quake at the thought of documenting what they did. If this is true for you, come to this class and learn how to document your craft in an SCA-appropriate format. The differences between standard documentation and research documentation will be discussed, as well as tips on how to cite your sources and write about what you do. This class is limited to 20 persons of 12 years or older.

Largesse Embroidery

Have you seen those red sashes hanging on an armored combatant's belt? Have you ever wondered what it symbolized and how it was made? This is your chance to learn one of the many ways to make a Stag's Blood sash out of chain-stitch embroidery. The class fee includes a largesse packet, complete with fabric, embroidery floss, embroidery hoop, needle, pattern, and informational handouts. Samples of Stag's Blood, Thegn, and Silver Tyne sashes will be shown.

This class is limited to 5 persons 12 years or older.

Cost: $5.00

Lucet Cording

Have you ever seen someone making a cord out of something that looks like a wooden tuning fork? Have you wondered how to do that? This is your chance to learn lucet cording, a handy technique to make slightly stretchy, yet strong cords. The class fee includes a lucet, a starter length of perle cotton, a thread bobbin, and a handout. This class is limited to persons 12 years or older. It is limited to 5 people if they require a lucet.

Arrrr, for those pirates out there, lucet cording is very useful on the ship. Come to the class to find out how.

Cost: $15.00 with purchase of a lucet
