The year is 1200 AD or 578 in the Saracen reckoning. Saladin is dead and his sons are fighting over his realm. The remnants of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the upstart Caesar of the Franks are also squabbling over succession of the throne in Cyprus. For the Golden City on the Bosporus, times are looking good. The throne of the ancient Caesars is secure again. The streets of the city and its courts throng with Franks, Saracens, Persians, Venetians, and crusader knights. Few could have expected that within four years the City of Constantine would fall to a new crusader army!

For now, join us to celebrate the last days of an ancient civilization, and to pursue the Arts and Sciences in a competition and collegium in the Barony of the Citadel.

The morning will be devoted to the competition for the Citadel Champion of the Arts and Sciences. This competition will be open to members of the Barony only. However we will also have a competition for entries from other areas. Anyone is also encouraged to bring items just for display. Entries in brewing and vinting will be allowed but there can be "tasting for the purposes of judging only"

Lunch will be potluck with entries being judged by "Populace's Choice". This means that competing entries will get votes from the people based on which ones they like and dislike. The entry with the most votes wins a special prize and the thanks of a hungry populace. This means that documentation and authenticity are less important than, "Does It Taste Good?". Documentation is not required but a recipe would be nice.

The theme for competing dishes is Eastern and Mediterranean cooking. As the theme of the event is 1200 AD Constantinople, this could include Greek, Arabic, Slavic, Indian, and even Roman, for those into Apicius. If you wish to bring something for consumption but not competition, feel free with our thanks.

In the afternoon there will be classes on a wide variety of subjects. Youth activities and classes will also be available.

Finally we will round out the evening with a light buffet, singing, and dancing.
